That night Charlotte had an extraordinary dream. In the dream there was a huge theatre with red velvet curtains tied back with golden sashes. And in the middle of the stage danced the Prima Ballerina, in a white tutu of feathery lace. Her blonde hair was pinned up and her arms curved gracefully above her head as she danced to the thundering music which filled the theatre. All through the dream Charlotte was certain that the ballerina was the lady from the shoe shop. But every time she tried to see the ballerina’s face she would turn and spin and dance away from her.
